Beatrice Wadey - Ceramic Artist
I am a Kent based artist currently studying BA(hons) Ceramic Design at Central Saint Martins.
I am enjoying being at an experimental stage in my practice, exploring a range of methods within my work. Including handbuilding, lathe modeling, mould making, glaze making, raku firing, slip trailing decoration...
I have been especially drawn to Raku and being part of the hands-on firing process. I find the element of unpredictability freeing, as it enables me to let go of perfectionism and expectations. There is a new appreciation as each piece is unique and impossible to replicate.
Going forward I am eager to incorporate more firing techniques within my work as I am fascinated by how different kilns can each transform the clay with such distinct finishes. I'd also be curious to forage wild clay to test and work with, exploring ceramic's connection to the natural world.
My experience includes working on a variety of projects ranging from community-based workshops to commercial projects.
